Interfaces for Ramona’s MCAM™ Assay Control Panel, Momentum™, and a screenshot of an actual lab workflow using the integrated platforms to automate operations.

A frequently requested feature of Ramona’s Multi-Camera Array Microscope (“MCAM™”) has been revisiting well plates over prolonged periods of time. With its rapid imaging capabilities, the MCAM™ can be used to precisely pinpoint critical events in cell growth experiments. However, in a conventional workflow, each new timepoint involves a human removing a well plate from an incubator before acquiring an image with the microscope. This added cost and complexity often makes timelapse imaging prohibitive. To enable streamlined execution of timelapse-based workflows, Ramona has worked with Thermo Fisher Scientific to integrate our MCAM™ with Momentum™.

The Thermo Scientific™ Momentum™ Workflow Scheduling software allows laboratory staff members to easily orchestrate their operations across instruments in a dynamic, digital platform. After a software integration process alongside the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, Ramona’s MCAM™ is now one such instrument that can be incorporated into established or new Momentum™ workflows, enabling MCAM™ users to automate the entire imaging process, from sample preparation to image acquisition and analysis.

Ramona’s MCAM™ is a modular microscope system with a simple interface that allows users to easily design assays around the biological needs of their sample. When combined with malleable software automations, including Momentum™ as well as Green Button Go™ by Biosero to date, our high-throughput microscopy toolset provides a turnkey solution for automating large-scale imaging projects on the order of hundreds of well plates per day.

With the combined power of Ramona’s high-throughput microscopy system and Momentum™, researchers can dramatically increase the productivity of their laboratories. Between the speed of the MCAM™ (imaging a 96 well plate in 30 seconds per illumination channel) and the automation capabilities of Momentum™ (eliminating time-consuming workflows of scheduling and manually handling samples), researchers can unlock unprecedented throughput. The ease of monitoring hundreds of plates via frequent imaging timepoints can uncover changes in biology that otherwise may have been missed, leading to optimized cell culture processes and ultimately, new scientific discoveries.
